How Barbers Get Paid in Jordan

Last updated: September 2026

If you search for a barber's salary in Jordan you'll find a single number and not much else. The problem is that most barber jobs in Amman aren't paid as a salary at all, so that number doesn't tell you much on its own.

Here are the pay arrangements we found in real job ads, and what each one means for you.

Three ways barbers get paid

  • Fixed salary. The least common. You know exactly what you earn each month, but you don't gain when the shop gets busy.
  • Base salary plus commission. The most common. There's a guaranteed amount, and a percentage of your work on top. The base is usually low — the commission is what makes the difference.
  • Commission only, or chair rental. Common, and often written in ads as freelance (عمل حر). One Khalda salon advertised pay entirely as a percentage of the work, with no base at all. With chair rental you pay the salon a fixed amount and keep the rest of what you earn.

The point: a low base with good commission can pay more than a higher fixed salary. You can't compare two numbers without knowing the arrangement behind each one.

The numbers, where there is a base

ExperienceMonthly base
No experience⁦200–300⁩ JOD
1–4 years⁦300–400⁩ JOD
Experienced⁦400–550⁩ JOD

Jordan's minimum wage is 290 JOD and is fixed until the end of 2027. If someone offers you a base below that as an employee, that's below the minimum. Freelance and chair-rental arrangements work differently — ask clearly which one you're in before you agree.

Ask these before you accept

  • Is there a base, and how much?
  • What's the commission percentage, and what's it calculated on — your work, or the salon's total?
  • When is commission paid, and is there a target you have to hit first?
  • Who pays for tools and products?
  • If it's chair rental: how much, weekly or monthly, and does it change in quiet months?
  • How many days a week, and how many hours a day?

Ads rarely answer any of this. Ask on the first call, not after you start.

Where these numbers come from

Job ads posted on Jordanian sites in September 2026, for barber roles in Amman. Fewer of them carried a clear figure than in any other profession we researched, and most were commission or freelance with no number at all.

We didn't use international salary sites. Their Jordan figures are far from the real market.
